TJ has never been one for
sports that require good hand and eye coordination. Baseball and basketball are
sports he likes to play but he just lacked the ability to bring his passion to
play in line with his ability to play.
Of course, running is
something different. That boy can run. If he decides to, he will run in Middle and
High School. The other day he ran a
7-minute mile for First In Fitness. Yes, if he decides to run he could be a force to be dealt with.
We signed both kids up for
Flag Football because one, Grant does what TJ does and two, we decided this was
better than contact football. I ran into
an acquaintance the other day who let his boy play football until his son was
so bruised that he let him quit.
Football is one of those sports that I will not let the boys play. As the research comes out we learn that these
concussion producing sports are destroying our kid’s brains. No matter how good TJ or Grant could be we
will not let them play a contact sport like football.
Flag Football is not like
football. There is very little serious
contact. Heads don’t butt one another. TJ is playing and loves it. He treats it very seriously. He wears the mouth guard, cleats and jersey
like a pro. He helps rally the team and call plays. He is into the game. Once they give him the
ball (and he holds on to it) he is good for ten to fifteen yards.
Next week they are going to
start passing play. Which means that TJ
will need to catch the ball if he isn’t the quarterback.
Oh boy.
